Frequently Asked Questions

What does neurological follow-up after a stroke include?

It includes clinical reassessment, medication management, evaluation of risk factors (blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes), coordination of rehabilitation, and a recurrence prevention strategy.

How is recurrent stroke prevented?

Prevention is based on controlling risk factors: blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, smoking, weight. It also involves individualised antithrombotic therapy and regular monitoring, in accordance with AHA/ASA guidelines for secondary prevention.

When does rehabilitation begin after a stroke?

The sooner, the better. According to AHA/ASA guidelines and the AVERT trial, early mobilisation within 24–48 hours is associated with better functional recovery. Rehabilitation is coordinated with a specialist team (physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists).

Is long-term follow-up important after a stroke?

It is critical. Long-term neurological follow-up helps with early detection of complications, adjustment of treatment, and maintenance of quality of life.
